Bravo! This video was a little jewel. I watched it on a little Apple laptop and Horst’s beautiful black-and-whites still shone. I especially appreciated the history of his Conde Nast career, clearly and succinctly told by archivist Shawn Waldron. And congratulations on choosing photos that made the story unfold so naturally. I look forward to the next installment from the archives.

  • oh I love this – more please!!

  • This is a wonderful little bio-video. Horst’s work is so strikingly original. The pictures are so famous and familiar. This video places an author with a face and identity, whom I previously confused with so many others mid-century fashion shooters, on the images.

  • What an elegant piece of work. It was delightful to see these images and to get a sense of the man who created them. This short video beautifully conveys both the scope of Horst’s career and the quality of his art. Loved the music . This is a great way to show off the treaures in the Conde Nast archive.

  • What a beautifully produced history of Horst. The section introducing his use of shawdow and light is so dramatic. I felt I was peering into the collection of a truly masterful artist. I love the footage of the photographer preparing to photograph the model. Was that actually Horst? How wonderful that you have that! Thanks for sharing this with us. I love the introduction of film-making to the blog. Can’t wait to see some more short docs on the archive collection!

  • Fantastic – the choice of images is really evocative of what made Horst so special as a photographer. His love and admiration for his subjects certainly came through.

  • I’m a long time Horst fan and happened on this video through Google. It’s great. I love the he plays with light and shadow to create a sculptural effect you just don’t see any more in magazines. And the video recognizes the importance of the woman with a corset! Congratulations on a wonderful job. Are these images for sale?

Horst P. Horst – What a lovely, lovely, well-done piece!

  • A thoughtful and beautifully composed video clip that showcases the wonderful work of Horst and the important works of art in the Conde Nast photo archive. What a great way to share these photographs, once again, with the general public. More, please … how about Penn?

  • The photos are simply stunning! Great way to promote the archives.

  • This video was so well made! I previously had no idea who took the “Mainbocher Corset” picture. It was wonderful to learn about Horst.

  • Wonderful piece of archive research!! what images, what wealth – more more more!!! and include that kind of music again in the future, how fitting and well tempered… ;–)

  • What a lovely video.
